![]() While he will never be Captain America, John Walker still has time to redeem himself by helping stop the Flag Smashers and answering for his actions, leading him to become the U.S. Hoskins' death became the straw that broke Walker's back and sent him down a road that split him from the ideals that Steve Rogers followed. This was compounded by the government sending in two normal soldiers to take on enhanced individuals without any way to match them. He also dealt with the weight of Captain America's legacy and constantly doubted his worth. While the act made him unworthy of the shield, it didn't quite make him an outright villain.įrom his perspective, Walker endured endless criticisms from heroes like Sam (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky, along with the civilians he encountered while tracking the Flag Smashers. When he did find one, he used Steve's shield to beat the man to death mercilessly. This sent Walker into a serum-fueled rage that had him target any member of the terrorist group he saw. Even though his skills were enhanced, it wasn't enough to save Hoskins, who was killed immediately by the head of the Flag Smashers, Karli Morgenthau (Erin Kellyman). Tired of people not listening to him and being unable to hold his own against the Dora Milaje, Walker took the Super Soldier Serum in an attempt to level the playing field. While this came across as arrogant and pretentious, it was actually a demand for respect as Walker still felt insecure in the suit. This didn't stop Walker from waving around his authority as the new Captain America, however, using every opportunity to remind people who he was and how he could get characters like Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) out of jail with just a phone call. While he and his partner, Lemar Hoskins/Battlestar (Clé Bennet), put up a good fight, they were still no match for enhanced soldiers. Nevertheless, he still took a shot at the job, and almost immediately, he was thrown into a battle with the Flag Smashers. ![]() He knew that people expected something great from him, but he was unsure if he could measure up. When the viewers were introduced to Walker out of his costume, he was shown to be a man who was well aware of the weight that Rogers' shield carried. Following their deaths, Walker went into a rage, killing every member and putting him on a path that cost him the shield. ![]() However, fans of the comics know that this paralleled a moment in the Captain America comic series where Walker's parents were murdered by a radical terrorist group known as the Watchdogs.
